Blade Materials Mora knives are made from 3 main types of steels and each has a unique characteristic and use. Depending on your application for use you would choose between High carbon, Stainless steel or laminated carbon blades.
High Carbon Steel blades made from high carbon steel are ideal for woodcraft heavy duty cutting or any application where a blade may be dulled from repeated cutting. When there is a higher content of carbon in the blade steel the blade can be hardened to a higher hardness making it a better knife for holding edge. Only draw back is the higher the carbon content the more lightly it is to get some surface rust so if using for water applications stick with a stainless steel blade.
Stainless Steel blades made from stainless steel will generally not retain an edge quite as well as a high carbon blades but are much easier to maintain and work well if outdoor in rain situations or being used around rivers or for ocean use. Stainless steel is used for most blades these days for those reasons.
Laminated blades blades from laminated steals are designed to hold an edge for longer but also achieve a high level of strength. The blades are designed by using high carbon steel with a high rockwell hardness in the centre of the blade with a softer steel wrapped around the outside or laminated. This allows the knife to keep a great edge for longed and the softer steel means the blade is not as brittle and will bend more than high carbon blades for rough outdoor use.
