Celestron is a company based in the USA that manufactures telescopes. They also distribute other optic products alongside telescopes, such as binoculars, spotting scopes and microscopes as well as accessories. Their telescope line had a trademark matte orange tube, which was changed to glossy black in 1980, and then, in 2006, changed back to a semi-gloss orange.
In 1970, the company was the first large-scale manufacturer of the Schmidt-Cassergrain telescope. Celestron’s primary innovation for the production of Schmidt corrector plates during the polishing process has allowed for inexpensive mass production of the corrector plates.
Celestron’s core ambition is to inspire, with every product they make, a sense of wonder, a yearn for knowledge, and fun. Even their most affordable telescope, the FirstScope, with its coated aluminium mirror and steel optical tube, presents spectacular views of the Moon and planets. The FirstScope’s compact design is uncomplicated to use, so is excellent for children and parents to use together to encourage budding scientists and astronomers.
