Fixed Blade Knives

Fixed blade knives come in all shapes and sizes built with purposes in mind to tackle specific tasks. Most outdoor enthusiasts from mountaineers, fisherman, kayakers, survivalists, hunters all uses fix blade knives all for different reasons. One reason that a lot of them have in common is that they all come with sheaths that you can secure externally for easy access. They are a lot stronger from the blade to the handle than your folding knife. This is because of the length of the tang. Full-length tang being the strongest of all the knife construction, tang refers to how much the metal from the blade continues into the handle. There are various types of tang

The advantage of having more tang is you are able to apply more force on the blade and its handle. For example if you are splitting wood you would be able to hammer down on one end without putting an excessive amount of strain on the handle end, because in effect it is still one blade. Where people get caught out is when they are unsure of or ill informed about how much tang they have. Some blades look as if they have a full tang construction where it might be a skeletonized tang and therefor not as strong. Having a tough knife this is reliable and robust with no moving parts making it difficult for anything to go wrong is essential for outdoor enthusiasts. If you are an outdoor enthusiast looking for a knife that can go with you anywhere and stand up to any task what is easy to maintain with little chance anything will go wrong with it a fixed blade might be the right choice for you.
